Our Favourite Businesses Who Give Back

Our Favourite Businesses Who Give Back

We always love to support businesses that give back when they can. We wanted to highlight a few of our vendors who give back and who are proud to show it. We believe it's important to give back when we can which is why we give back when we can. A few campaigns we've done in the past is Smile Cookies for the local food bank here in Shubenacadie. We've also supported the local Legion to raise funds. We've also supported the local Search & Rescue teams to help them fundraise. As a small business, we understand the need for community and how these local charities are necessary for our community. That's why we want to highlight businesses that give back.

Axe To Grind
You're probably wondering why our spice vendor is called "Axe To Grind". We would love to tell you why it is! Axe to Grind started as a fundraiser idea to help support the woman's axe-throwing team to be able to cover funds to head to the World Double Bit Axe Throwing Championships. The spices were so popular, the owner decided to sell them more broadly so everyone could enjoy them! To this day, a portion of proceeds go right back to the Nova Scotia Lumberjack Society which sends out a team each year to the Championships.

Noël & Co
Founded by two teens, this candle company aims to make a big impact. Lauren - one of the owners - went through 2 kidney transplants in 2018. They made it a mission to help and support the Atlantic Kidney Foundation as the cause is near and dear to their hearts. From each candle, 2% is donated back to the Kidney Foundation to help others like Lauren who needed a kidney and they helped to give her a new one.

Scotian Shores
This vendor makes a huge impact on our oceans. Did you know that by buying one of her items you are removing 1 pound of garbage from our oceans? A social enterprise focused on cleaning our beaches and oceans and turning some of those finds into something beautiful. All funds go right back into helping her initiative to help clean our oceans.

Light n' Luscious Body Treats
Our soap and bath bomb vendor donates 5% of the proceeds to local charities. In the past, they've supported charities from ocean clean-ups, the Canadian Cancer Society, LGBTQ support groups, the Mi'kmaw cultural centre and more. We love how they support charities that matter most to them and matter to their community.

Basic Spirit
Our pewter vendor is all about giving. As part of their business, they donate 10% of all proceeds to charity. They donated to all sorts of different charities including tree-planting initiatives, land preservation groups and global groups. On some of their products, you can see exactly what charities you will be supporting by purchasing that product.

As a consumer, it's always important to give back and by supporting any of these businesses above, you're giving right back to your communities and your province. We love Nova Scotia just as much as the next person so we love to help those in need. What charities do you like to support? Let us know!
